The movie was released on 14 November 1986 (source IMDB) or 23 January 1987 (source Wikipedia), the closing credits say copyright 1985 for the music and copyright 1986 overall for the movie, however between 40:31 to 48:50 and 1:10:25 to 1:25:00 it says on signs in the background "Welcome! 1984 Western Conference Semi-Finalists" and "1984 Western Conference Championships" respectively. This makes me wonder whether the movie was actually filmed in 1984 and that the signs in the background were repurposed by the filmmakers from the real life 1984 NBA Playoffs (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_NBA_Playoffs, www.google.com.au/search?source=hp&ei=_SynW9mnOpjk-Ab1oqkQ&q=1984+western+conference&oq=1984+western+conference&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l2j0i22i30k1l3.4009.10179.0.14399.25.18.0.1.1.0.507.3431.2-7j3j0j1.11.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..13.12.3448.0..35i39k1j0i67k1j0i131k1.0.2EMBumKPwxo), and that the movie languished in post-production throughout 1984, 1985, and 1986 before being finally released on 14 November 1986/23 January 1987. I wouldn't be surprised if the movie languished in post-production for 2 years because it is a pretty crappy movie that was either lambasted or ignored by critics. Despite this, I reckon it's a good movie if you like 1980s nostalgia and/or if you are a fan of Mariska Hargitay.

when i heard "god" one day tell me, "everything is going to be okay" I felt love. i dont know if it was god or not but i knew who ever said it had love and was giving it to me. I say this to myself to this day whenever i am feeling down :)

Thank you for posting this. I actually own this movie on DVD. This movie is so awesome. The fact that Shaft is a college tennis coach is pure comedy in it's own right. Also, the theme song-Powerplay is sung by Jimmy Osmond who is the younger brother of Donnie and Marie. Once again, adds to more comedic charm of this movie!
